The Verdant Walk by North Design Office

Here’s another nighttime photo of a solar-powered public art project in Cleveland by the ever-so-talented Toronto-based North Design Office. Originally a proposal for a Cleveland Public Art exhibit, The Verdant Walk consists of 7 wire sculptures wrapped in a solar fabric that collects energy from the sun during daylight hours and then light up at night. המעצבת טל טנא-צ'צ'קס, בשיתוף עם עיריית תל אביב-יפו, מציגה פסל מאוורר ענק בגובה של שישה מטרים. 

הפסל הוא מונומנט מדויק על פי האייקון הישראלי משנות ה60- ה"סטאר", בצבע טורקיז, יוצב בכיכר רבין עד סוף אוגוסט, ויפעל בקצב של שבעה סיבובים בדקה. 

מאוורר ה"סטאר" שהיה סמל המרפסות הישראליות בשנים 1965-1980 כולל כבל, תקע ומפצל שיונחו בסמוך לבסיסו. הוא מופעל על מערכת סולארית, מצבר פנימי ומנוע של 1.5 כוח סוס.

המאוורר יעבוד למשך שתי דקות בכל חצי שעה עגולה, מסתובב מצד לצד, בסיבוב כנפיים במהירות 7 סיבובים בדקה.

זוהי הפעם הראשונה שיוצג בישראל פסל ברוח הבאזז ארט - פיסול אובייקטים המשלבים ערכים של מקום עם אימפקט ויזואלי, הרפתקנות לא פורמאלית, חוצפנית ויצרית. הבאזז ארט הוא אובייקט שחי בין אנשים, נוגע, מרגש, מעורר, משמח ומצחיק.

The Strawberry Tree Gives Serbian Residents a Solar-Powered Hot Spot to Charge their Gadgets

The Strawberry Tree is a public solar charger for mobile devices invented by a group of students from the University of Belgrade. Their invention was unveiled for the first time in Serbia in October of 2010, when it was installed in the ‘City Square’ in the center of Obrenovac, Serbia, where it still remains today. This technological giant uses solar panels to provide dependable energy, while also promoting the use of clean energy.

CO2LED Solar-Powered Public Art Installation

In this public-art installation five-hundred twenty-two solar-powered LEDs on rods, each topped with a reused plastic bottle, light up the Rosslyn traffic island – looking a bit like luminescent reeds. This temporary environmental public artwork, aptly named CO2LED by artists Jack Sanders, Robert Gay and Butch Anthony, was designed with Arlington’s environmental initiative FreshAIRE (Arlington Initiative to Reduce Emissions) in mind.

“This temporary project promotes sustainability, hails the availability of alternative energy sources and technologies and demonstrates the ease of recycling,” says Jack Sanders. “We will reuse all the materials used in the project—everything.”

Bruce Munro Announces Largest Solar-Powered Field of Light for Ayers Rock, Australia in 2013

Bruce Munro was first inspired to create his fields of light while traveling through Australia’s red desert in 1992. He was amazed by the endless fields of flowers that burst up from the barren expanse when it rains, so he developed a low-energy lighting installation to bring the phenomenon to other locales. Munro says “My aim is to make this an event shared in every aspect with as many people in Australia as possible.”

The artist’s latest installation will aim to do just that – the national park at Ayer’s Rock (which is also called Uluru) spans 311,000 acres, and Munro and his team will take six weeks to install his largest installation yet. Field of Light at Uluru will consist of 3,290 kilometers of optical fiber and it will be entirely powered by solar energy. Munro says that his team will take every effort to protect the landscape: “We’re going to be extraordinarily careful, and we’re using 500 LED solar-powered illuminators, so that the installation doesn’t waste any power.” The installation will lend a gentle light to the massive rock formation that will last for about 4 hours from dusk to evening, using up the solar energy stored during the day.
